Sarai by Ralph Hager

my feet scrape the road
I know why children
want to experience life
days of wandering
into my own moments
I could feel night
and its touch on my back
darkness between street lights
were the nights in my days
a segway from sunrise to dusk
I wondered about companionship
knowing I was the man I lived with
tough he was a few steps ahead
I followed
a person who spoke with me
about spaces in life
was more important
than where I would sleep
or the hunger I fed
from food in the air
the music followed
like a cat, curling up
with me when I rested
