Arrested River by Ralph Hager

land seizes water
colors taken in swirls
lovers on a round-a-bout
are boundaries to the water's
edge held together by forests.
the road has a similarity to the river
how it rolls unto the banks, turns
and falls on itself the way people meet
hug and walk away
On shore dogs yelp at the moon
standing alone with trees
the forest is a city gone astray,
alone on the banks, hoping
the river will satisfy emotion
while leaves drift with the current.
